Safety & Discord
Learn how AVEL manages Discord access, student communication, moderation, and school oversight.
Access is tied to verification and the appropriate AVEL role.
AVEL-managed league spaces are moderated during official league activity.
Dedicated spaces support advisor and adult administrative communication.
Student-safety concerns should follow school reporting procedures and be shared with AVEL when they involve league activity.
Discord is currently AVEL’s primary communication platform. We know some schools do not allow Discord applications, and we are actively exploring other ways to support those schools. If Discord access is restricted at your school, please contact us. We’ll do our best to work with you and find an appropriate alternative when possible.
Participating schools remain responsible for appropriate adult oversight of their students and school program.
Use your school’s reporting procedures for student-safety concerns and notify the appropriate AVEL administrator when the issue involves league activity.
No. Keep match disputes out of public channels and use the designated AVEL dispute or support process.
Confirm each student has connected Discord, been verified to their AVEL profile, and received the appropriate AVEL role. Approved school restrictions can be marked as an alternate arrangement rather than incomplete.

Rules & Resources
Handbook, competition rulebooks, policies, and other quick answers you need throughout the season.
Submit formal match disputes within 48 hours. Include the match details and any screenshots, recordings, replay files, or other information that may help AVEL review the issue.
The league-wide handbook covers school-certified eligibility, academics, attendance, sportsmanship, digital citizenship, competitive integrity, discipline, reporting, family expectations, school responsibilities, and acknowledgements.
Your school determines whether a student is eligible to represent the school. AVEL relies on the school’s eligibility review and certification, along with AVEL-specific participation requirements.
Before competing, the student must be registered with AVEL, meet your school’s eligibility requirements, have all required participation forms on file with the school, and be assigned to the appropriate competition or team.
Keep the signed waiver and participation forms on file at your school. AVEL does not require you to upload those documents; instead, you confirm in the portal that the required forms have been received and retained by the school.
Yes. AVEL uses a rolling roster during the regular season, so you can add, remove, or update eligible students as needed. Any roster change affecting an upcoming match must be completed at least 24 hours before that match.
Remove the student from active competition until they are eligible again. Update their status in the AVEL portal so they are not used in an upcoming match. If the student becomes eligible again later, you can return them to the active roster.
Yes. A student may participate in more than one AVEL competition as long as they are properly registered and rostered for each one, remain eligible, and can meet the schedule requirements for each competition. Smash players may also participate in both Smash Teams and Smash Singles.
Students may compete in multiple AVEL competitions, but schedule accommodations are not guaranteed. Advisors should review match schedules and make sure each team has enough eligible players available to compete. If an AVEL-issued schedule creates an unavoidable conflict, contact AVEL as early as possible. We’ll work with schools when scheduling allows, but some matches—especially postseason matches—may not be able to move.
Discord is currently AVEL’s primary communication platform. We know some schools do not allow Discord applications, and we are actively exploring other ways to support those schools. If Discord access is restricted at your school, please contact us. We’ll do our best to work with you and find an appropriate alternative when possible.
If an issue comes up during a match, document what happened and avoid arguing about it in public channels. Use the AVEL dispute or support process to report the issue and include any relevant details, screenshots, or match information. AVEL will review the concern and follow up with the appropriate advisors or league staff as needed.
Use the Match Dispute option in the AVEL portal to contact league staff. Submit the dispute within 48 hours and include the match, teams involved, a clear description of what happened, and any screenshots, recordings, or other information that may help us review it. Keep dispute discussions out of public channels while AVEL reviews the issue.
If an eligible, registered substitute is available, you may use them for the match. If you cannot field the required number of players for that competition, contact AVEL as soon as possible. Depending on the circumstances and competition rules, the match may need to be rescheduled or recorded as a forfeit.
Yes. During the regular season, advisors may move eligible, registered students between teams as needed. Any change affecting an upcoming match must be completed at least 24 hours before that match. Postseason roster changes may be restricted to prevent last-minute roster stacking.
Your initial roster certification must be submitted before your school’s first regular-season match. Because AVEL uses a rolling roster, you can continue making eligible roster changes during the season as long as they meet the required match deadlines.
AVEL will review the situation and respond based on the seriousness of the violation. Consequences may include a warning, competition restriction, match suspension, or removal from league participation. Serious violations may result in stronger action without going through each step first. The school advisor will be notified when league action affects a student or team.
The Smash rulebook covers match settings, stage selection, lobby procedures, score reporting, connectivity issues, disputes, and competitive integrity. AVEL uses three-student Smash Teams plus separate Smash Singles entries.
Each school team has three student slots. Multiple teams use Team A, Team B, Team C and onward.
Yes. Smash Teams and Smash Singles are separate competition entries, and the same student may participate in both.
Marvel Rivals uses 6v6 competitive play. The rulebook covers Tournament Room settings, servers, hero ban/pick, map procedures, substitutions, score reporting, disconnects, and competitive integrity.
Six students are assigned to each team, using Student 1 through Student 6.
