AVEL uses Discord for league communication and
competition coordination with role-gated access,
active moderation, and defined safety procedures.
Students do not enter an unrestricted league community.
01 · Role-Gated Access
Access begins with verification.
When a participant enters the AVEL Discord
server, they do not immediately receive access
to league channels. Students first enter a
restricted verification area. Appropriate roles
are assigned before access to AVEL league spaces
is opened.
02 · Active Moderation
AVEL spaces are moderated.
AVEL moderators help oversee league spaces,
reinforce community expectations, and respond
when inappropriate behavior, content, or misuse
of AVEL-managed channels is reported or observed.
03 · Controlled Permissions
Roles determine access.
Discord permissions are organized by role so
participants receive access to the spaces
appropriate for their participation. Advisor
and adult-only areas remain separate from
student-accessible league spaces.
04 · School + Advisor Oversight
Students remain connected to their school.
Students register through a school-specific AVEL
registration pathway and appear on that school's
roster. Advisors can review participation,
manage members, verify required documentation,
and certify eligible students before competition.
05 · Reporting + Escalation
Concerns have a defined path.
AVEL maintains procedures for addressing
harassment, threats, inappropriate content,
misconduct, or other safety concerns within
AVEL-managed league spaces. Student-related
concerns can be escalated to the appropriate
school advisor or school leadership when needed.
06 · Shared Responsibility
AVEL works alongside school safeguards.
AVEL's league controls are intended to complement
the supervision, acceptable-use requirements,
technology policies, eligibility standards,
and student-safety procedures already established
by participating schools and districts.
